These are the legs for my rocking chair. The two long ones are the back legs, bent to accommodate the slanted back so you don't have to sit exactly straight up and down. The shorter ones are the front legs which will run from the rockers up to the arm rests. I told mom I needed a drill bit that would drill square holes and she thought I was joking.
It was also hard to find two trees that were curved the exact same amount, one bent to the left, one bent to the right. Persistence is the key!!
If you can see it, this is the square drill bit used to drill square holes. Much to mom's surprise they do exist -- called mortising chisels. The slats and rails of the chair will have tongues cut in each end that will fit exactly into the wooden slots in the legs. The tongues are called tenons. Hence the joinery used on the rocker is called mortise and tenon joints. It is my first time to try such a project -- hope it turns out to be more than just a bunch of toothpicks.
